List of 50 Best-performing listed companies in 2023

Forbes Vietnam has recently released its 11th annual list of the top 50 best-performing listed companies, which features familiar names from previous years. The decline of the stock market and difficulties in international fundraising have contributed to the absence of significant IPOs and large listings. In the context of a stagnant real estate market and weakened domestic consumption, defensive industries such as logistics, technology, essential consumer goods, and food have been on the rise. The banking sector has the most representatives on the list, with six companies, while real estate and raw materials each have half as many. The total after-tax profit of the 50 companies on the list reached VND 228.096 trillion, an 18% increase from last year's list. Total revenue reached VND 1.490.453 trillion, a 24.9% increase. As usual, Petrolimex topped the revenue charts, while Vietcombank led in profit.

CALCULATION METHOD

To compile the list, companies listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange and Hanoi Stock Exchange were evaluated through several stages. In the preliminary round, companies had to meet certain criteria, such as being profitable in 2022 and having a minimum revenue and market capitalization of VND 500 billion. In the next round, companies were scored based on five quantitative criteria: compound annual growth rate of revenue and profit, return on equity and capital, and EPS growth from 2018 to 2022. Forbes Vietnam then conducted a qualitative survey to assess the company's sustainable development: its position in the industry, the source of its profits, the quality of its business management, and industry prospects. The list was supported by the quantitative calculation of SSI Securities Company and was based on market capitalization as of May 30, 2023. Financial statements for 2022 were used for calculations.
